Helmets save lives, but not everyone has access to them. For many riders in emerging
economies, affording a quality helmet is out of reach. Yet, these riders often depend on their
motorcycles to support their families.
What if your old helmet could make a difference? At Mlezi 22, we’ve developed a program that
transforms gently used helmets into life-saving gear for riders in need. Here’s how you can be a
part of this impactful mission.
The Need for Helmet Donations
In many regions, riders use motorcycles as a primary mode of transportation or for their livelihoods, delivering goods and people. Without proper helmets, they face a higher risk of
injury or death in accidents. Yet, helmets are often too expensive or unavailable in these areas.
Your unused or surplus helmet, even if it’s a few years old, can offer critical protection to
someone who needs it most.
How the Donation Process Works
1. Assess Your Helmet
Make sure your helmet meets these basic criteria:
- It has no significant damage (cracks, dents, or compromised foam).
- It is no older than five years.
- It meets recognized safety standards (DOT, ECE, or Snell).
2. Prepare Your Helmet for Donation
- Clean it thoroughly with mild soap and water.
- Ensure all parts, like the chin strap and liner, are intact.
3. Send It to Us
- Ship your helmet to the address provided on our website.
- Include your contact information if you’d like updates on where your helmet goes.
4. We Refurbish and Distribute
- Our team cleans, inspects, and refurbishes each helmet.
- Helmets are distributed through our partner networks to riders in need.
The Impact of Your Donation
Every helmet donated is a potential life saved. Beyond the individual, protecting a rider means
supporting their entire family and community. By donating, you’re not just giving safety gear;
you’re providing peace of mind and hope for a better future. And of course, all donations are
tax-deductible.
